Vikingland Band Festival to present 2017 Minnesota Drum Corps Premiere
ALEXANDRIA, MN (Apr. 12, 2017) The exciting sounds of drum and bugle corps will again join the beat of marching bands in Alexandria during the two-day Vikingland Band Festival marching music weekend. The Saturday night field show exhibition and Sunday afternoon parade will take place June 24 and 25, 2017.
The second annual "Minnesota Drum Corps Premiere" will be held at the Alexandria Area H.S. football field at 6:30 PM on Saturday, June 24. All four of Minnesota's drum & bugle corps will make their season debut by presenting their 2017 productions for the first time. The corps will be joined by three high school marching bands that will perform their summer parade competition music.
FIELD SHOW LINEUP
New to the lineup this year is River City Rhythm from Anoka, which competes on the Drum Corps International (DCI) circuit. The group is Minnesota's newest drum corps and comprises members age 21 and under. The field show also features all three of Minnesota's all-age corps that compete on the Drum Corps Associates (DCA) circuit, including Minnesota Brass (St. Paul), Govenaires (St. Peter), and Chops, Inc. (Minneapolis). All four corps earned a coveted spot as a championship finalist in their respective division last season.
The event will kick off with special musical performances by the Mankato 77 Lancers Marching Band, 728 Cadets Marching Band and local host Alexandria Marching Band. Following the show, band members in attendance will be invited to participate in an educational clinic with Minnesota Brass.
"The Saturday field show exceeded all expectations last year and was a great evening of entertainment for a large and energetic crowd," according to committee chair Greg DeGier. "The Vikingland Band Festival is now in its 33rd year, and there is a sense of rejuvenation surrounding the weekend. We continue to innovate and improve, and we have strong lineups for both the field and parade events."
The Vikingland Band Festival parade will march down Broadway beginning at 1:30 PM on Sunday, June 25. The lineup features 22 units, including a full roster of 20 high school bands plus 2 honor units: Minnesota Brass will represent DCA all-age corps and River City Rhythm will represent DCI corps in the parade.
Tickets for the Minnesota Drum Corps Premiere will go on sale Monday, April 17. Advance prices are $9 for the premium center section (between the 43 yard lines) and $6 for the standard sections, with tickets $3 higher on the day of the show. Special child rates in the standard sections are $5 for ages 4-12 and free for ages 3 and under.
